  1. Japan (日本, Nippon or Nihon, officially 日本国 Nippon-koku or Nihon-koku ie. States, Japan, or “The land where the sun is rising”) is an island country in East Asia, located on the chain of islands east of the Asian continent, the western edge of the Pacific ocean, north of Eastchinese sea. Japan is made up of over 3,000 islands, the largest islands from north to south are: Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu, which make up more than 97% of the area. A larger number of smaller islands surround these four, as well as a group of remote islands of Okinawa and Ryukyu.japan
